Mindfulness starts by noticing this moment

You do not need an empty mind. Take a minute during an ordinary activity, such as eating or walking, and notice what you see, hear and feel. When attention wanders, return gently.

What does mindfulness mean here?

It means deliberately paying attention to present experience without rushing to judge it. Other thoughts will arise. Returning your attention is the practical step, not evidence that you failed.

Try it while eating

Choose a small bite and notice its appearance, smell, texture and taste at an unhurried pace. There is no race or perfect answer. If food is not a suitable context for you, apply the same idea to a sound nearby or the sensation of walking. See the raisin eating practice for a concrete example.

Know the limits

Some people may prefer another activity or need to stop if discomfort increases. Mindfulness does not erase thoughts and is not a substitute for professional care. If you want a simpler pause, explore gentle breathing and choose what fits.
